Volvo’s B-Class, Q3 and X1 rival, the V40 Cross Country has been launched in India at ₹ 28.5 lakh ex-Delhi. The V40 is being offered in only one fully-loaded trim with numerous active and passive safety features like City Safety, Active High Beam, Parking Pilot, curtain and SIPS airbags among others. Volvo says that the V40 has received the highest Euro NCAP score ever recorded in the latter’s history. The V40 is powered by a 2.0-litre 5-cylinder common rail diesel engine which makes 150PS of max power and 350Nm of torque. A 6-speed auto transmission with manual mode is the only gearbox on offer. This powertrain should be good enough for a sub-10 second 0-100kmph run. Volvo claims a fuel efficiency of 16.8kmpl.
The V40 Cross Country is available in four colours: Raw Copper, Misty Blue, Silver Metallic and Passion Red. Customers can choose three different interior combinations for the upholstery. There are LED daytime running lamps and the V40 Cross Country, which is essentially a jacked-up version of the V40, has the same swoopy hood which characterises every modern Volvo. Along with the raised suspension, there is plastic cladding all around the car. The 17-inch brushed-aluminium alloy wheels also look the part. The interiors look quite futuristic and the instrument console offers three driving modes – Elegance, Eco and Performance, with a green ‘Eco’ light that comes on if one is driving the car in economy mode. A panoramic sunroof is also part of the package.
